ACEMID Wins Eureka Award for Interdisciplinary Scientific Research for Groundbreaking Melanoma Study with Canfield’s VECTRA® WB360
The Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging & Diagnosis (ACEMID) has been honored with the Aspire Scholarship Eureka Award for Interdisciplinary Scientific Research. This achievement recognizes the collaborative team effort behind the world’s largest melanoma cohort study, which focuses on investigating “the effectiveness of 3D total body photography to assist clinicians, streamline skin cancer imaging and enhance diagnosis.”1
Key contributors acknowledged for this award include Peter H. Soyer, Monika Janda, Pablo Fernandas-Penas, Victoria Mar, Liz Payne, Graig Lawn, and many others who played pivotal roles in the study's success. Their collective dedication and expertise have been instrumental in advancing this groundbreaking research.
As part of the cohort study, Canfield Scientific’s VECTRA® WB360 whole-body imaging system was installed in 16 sites across regional and rural Australia. ACEMID’s uses the capabilities of the WB360 and DermaGraphix® software to increase access to skin screenings in rural areas, where screening availability is limited.
The innovative VECTRA WB360 employs both cross-polarized and non-polarized lighting to generate incredibly detailed three-dimensional images of the entire body in a single capture. Powered by Canfield's state-of-the-art DermaGraphix software, these images are pivotal in the surveillance of pigmented lesions. The software enables dermatologists to examine individual lesions, capture detailed dermoscopic images, and monitor skin changes over time. By utilizing advanced technology, ACEMID aims to help dermatologists better understand the contributing factors of skin cancer and develop effective preventative strategies.
