“VECTRA® 3D is a huge advantage in my practice. My staff loves it. The patients appreciate it. The doctors in the hospital talk about it. It’s so integral to my daily practice that I don’t really know the world without it.
Gary Tuma, MD FACS
When Dr. Gary Tuma was recruited to Capital Health Hospital in Pennington, NJ one of the requests he made was that the hospital purchase a VECTRA 3D system. The hospital not only purchased a VECTRA XT and Mirror® 2D Photo Studio, but incorporated VECTRA 3D imaging into a $600 million redesign. “All our operating rooms are state-of-the-art with multi-panel flat screens and access to our databases. Before I would go into surgery with 2D print outs that I would have to step away from the patient to see. Now the 3D images are right over me to refer to during surgery.”
Aligning patient goals and realistic outcomes is made easier with VECTRA, according to Dr. Tuma, “One of the most important things I do every day as a plastic surgeon is to manage patients’ expectations. VECTRA 3D technology actually allows me to show a patient what we can achieve with a procedure on their own body. I wouldn’t know how to run my practice without it.”
According to Dr. Tuma, it takes most patients some time to get used to seeing themselves practically life size in 3D on screen, but the image soon becomes a focal point of the consultation. “My patients are blown away by the technology and it helps them understand what we are talking about. Ultimately it also helps me.”
Talking through a procedure and seeing the results of that procedure can prompt a change in direction for some patients. “I’ve had patients come to my office thinking they want a certain operation and we show them what the results of that operation will be and it wasn’t what they were expecting. It’s saved me from some potentially unhappy patients.”
